Car Battery Replacement in Newcastle and Durham Region

If your car is slow to start, clicks when you turn the key or has a battery light on, the battery or the charging system needs testing. Newcastle Automotive tests the battery, alternator and starter first, so you only pay to replace the part that actually failed.

Warning Signs

Signs of a Battery or
Electrical Problem

Batteries usually give a warning before they quit. If you notice any of these, get it tested before you are stuck in a parking lot.

Book a Battery Test
  • Slow cranking. The engine turns over slowly, especially on cold mornings.
  • Clicking, no start. You hear clicking when you turn the key but the engine does not turn over.
  • Battery or charging light. The light on the dash means the charging system needs checking.
  • Dim or flickering lights. Headlights or dash lights dim at idle or flicker.
  • An older battery. Anything over four or five years old is worth testing before winter.
  • Electrics acting up. Power windows, locks or other electrics work one day and not the next.
Test Before Replacing

A Dead Battery Is Not
Always the Battery

A battery that keeps going flat can be an alternator that is not charging it, or something draining it overnight. We find out which before recommending a new battery.

Battery Load Test

We test the battery under load to see if it can still deliver starting power. If the battery is fine, we tell you.

Alternator Output

A failing alternator does not recharge the battery while you drive, so even a new battery goes flat.

Starter Check

A slow crank can be a worn starter rather than the battery. We check it before you buy parts you do not need.

Parasitic Drain

Something staying on with the car off can drain a good battery overnight. We track it down.

Before Winter

Get It Tested
Before the Cold

Cold weather cuts a battery's starting power, and a battery that started fine in September can leave you stuck on the first cold morning. If yours is four years old or more, have it tested at your winter tire changeover or next oil change.

Electrical Faults

Warning Lights and
Electrical Problems

Lights on the dash, fuses that keep blowing and electrics that work one day and not the next usually start with a diagnostic scan. We find the fault before replacing parts.
